I've just realised that I conveniently have ten Great fantasy series. The authors, and books, that I always have on my shelf, always buy if I don't have, and always read again and again. I just finished the second book by Patrick Rothfuss - I think he may be one of the best fantasy authors I have ever read, and if you recognise any of the names below, you'll know that is high praise. 
My top five and bottom five are approximately equal with each other, so the order is only approximate. Most of these are true Epic Fantasies, a few are slightly different. I'll have to write a bit more about them...- The Discworld

ReplyDeleteI don't really think of that one as an Epic Fantasy Saga (Discworld isn't either, admittedly, exactly, but no-one can leave that out!).
ReplyDeleteDark is Rising is definitely in my favourite books, though. Bah, forgot the Earthsea Quartet too.

I found your list looking for lists that include Brust and Moon. It amazes me that they aren't included on every list. Granted, Moon focuses on female protagonists which probably scares people. She also puts a lot of depth and hardships in their lives; but that's a realism I really enjoy even in my fantasy novels. Brust is artistic in his world creation, dialog, and humor.
